Art in The Ark 2019

Ibiza-based Charlotte has had an adventurous and exciting life.  She grew up near London in the Second World War, trained there and  whilst still a student she had her first important commission of a poster for the London Underground which was used in 1961. Following a brief time in London working freelance as an illustrator, with a spell at an advertising agency. Charlotte soon realised advertising was not for her, and after a year she decided to travel and see if she could make painting a way of life.  Charlotte then travelled Europe, eventually meeting poet and novelist writer Jack Beeching who became her husband.

Charlotte also met fellow artist Joe Plaskett, a Canadian who was based in Paris, and he introduced her to Ottawa and Toronto.  Colour is at the heart of Charlotte’s painting and she believes it was the reason for her success in Canada where people wanted colour on their walls during the long cold winters.

Charlotte is also an accomplished sculptor and for a while lived in Palma de Mallorca, working in the Studio of Maria Isabel Ballester, and she has been commissioned to sculpt for various people around the world.

Charlotte and Jack travelled to the US in the 1960s.  However, after visiting and painting in Ibiza, it was finally after Jack died that Charlotte made the island her home.

Charlotte’s inspiration and energy is found in the colour and movement of her artworks and lends itself to this wonderful collection which will be on display, and for sale, at the Ark Centre.

We invite you to join us on the evening of 20th September at 6.00pm, where you will be able to meet Charlotte and be taken on a journey through the many places she has visited and painted.  Charlotte will be donating 20% of the sale price to the Ark Medical Trust Charity.

Should you be unable to attend on the evening, the exhibition will remain on display and for sale during business hours until 25th October.
